Job Description:

Are you a leader with a passion for crafting outstanding games that engage and encourage? Blizzard Entertainment is currently seeking a Technical Director to join our Overwatch team and drive our game to new heights!

As our Technical Director, you’ll be at the helm of Overwatch’s technical strategy, leading our talented engineers in the creation of groundbreaking gaming experiences. You will define and drive our technical vision, establish and maintain proven engineering practices for the team and cultivate our engineering talent.


Responsibilities:

  • Contribute as a key member of the steering group to support the short-, medium- and long-term goals of Overwatch 2
  • Identify and prioritize technology initiatives, ensuring that engineering is passionate about the right objectives for each milestone
  • Coordinate with team leads to ensure that they have the right level of engineering support to achieve their goals
  • Form partnerships with leaders around the company who support the project and
  • drive alignment on philosophy or code sharing whenever possible
  • Represent all technical interests for the project during product review sessions
  • Lead all aspects of technical quality of work and stability of game services
  • Mentor engineering leads to support day-to-day tasks and achieve long term career
  • and team objectives
  • Evaluate existing and developing technologies with a strive to reduce redundancy and
  • improve efficiency of individual efforts
  • Engage with company leadership to contribute to Blizzard’s game lifecycle strategy
  • and advocate the team to the Engineering Council and to other teams at Blizzard
  • Act as liaison for external technical partners at 3rd party organizations and studios across Microsoft
  • Provide critical analysis of technology and development practices with the goal of
  • improving game quality and team efficiency and encouraging a positive working
  • environment

Minimum Requirements:

  • Passion for excellence with the perseverance to achieve it through others
  • Excellent communication skills with engineers and all other collaborators
  • Equally comfortable as an architect, advocate, leader, and implementer
  • Technical, managerial, and leadership skills at the technical director level
  • 5+ years of a demonstrated ability building and operating multiplayer online games
  • Strong ability to develop long term plans as well as break those down into individual objectives achievable in short periods of time
  • Strong programming skills and a proven aptitude for technical design
  • Strong ability to partner with leadership from the larger development organization
  • including engineering, production, design, art, QA, and others
  • Ability to understand a wide variety of languages, toolsets and development paradigms
  • Experience working with large multi-platform codebases

Extra Points:

  • Experience building, shipping, and supporting AAA titles across PC and console
  • platforms in a technical leadership role
  • Experience working with external partners
  • Experience working in multi-team and multi-product environments
  • Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, or an equivalent degree or experience.

In the U.S., the standard base pay range for this role is $206,000.00 – $381,004.00 Annual. These values reflect the expected base pay range of new hires across all U.S. locations. Ultimately, your specific range and offer will be based on several factors, including relevant experience, performance, and work location. Your Talent Professional can share this role’s range details for your local geography during the hiring process. In addition to a competitive base pay, employees in this role may be eligible for incentive compensation. Incentive compensation is not guaranteed.
