For 30 years we’ve been independently developing and publishing incredible video games at our multiple studios founded by Jason & Chris Kingsley, but Rebellion is more than just games. We have our own film and mo-cap studio, we create board games, publish books, and through 2000AD, publish comics and graphic novels such as the amazing Judge Dredd.
We operate across multiple UK locations and employ a hybrid work pattern for this position from our studios located in Oxford, Warwick and Runcorn. We are on the lookout for a Principal VFX Artist to join our passionate and growing VFX team, to help work on a variety of thrilling unannounced projects we have in the works. This includes Project Archipelago, an intense battle royale game, as well as the opportunity to move onto and work on unannounced titles such as a dark sci-fi shooter and more. Additionally, our brand new original IP, Atomfall – is set for release in 2025.
As a highly experienced member of the VFX team, your role is to deliver art content at the highest possible quality. Your focus will be in a number of areas where your skills and experience can be best utilised to solve new pipelines, bring artwork up to standard and to assist the Lead Artist.
Responsibilities:
- With direction from project lead, create consistent high-quality VFX at all levels of complexity, while proactively collaborating across all disciplines.
- Drive best practices for production pipeline improvements and projects by taking ownership of key areas of documentation.
- Challenge, identify and help re-define technical and artistic VFX processes such as new project tools and functions.
- Track and update the progress of day-to-day tasks using the designated tracking tools.
- Proactively drive optimisation and debugging.
- Reference game design documents to maintain project consistency.
- Understand team skillset and gaps in relation to the project. Facilitate knowledge sharing where needed and provide this feedback to the lead.
Requirements
- Expert knowledge of a game engine particle system editor.
- Excellent knowledge of Houdini’s Particle Simulation or EmberGen.
- Expert knowledge of 2D particle texture creation.
- An expert knowledge of Photoshop, Substance Designer or other 2D packages.
- Knowledge of Perforce.
- Able to translate concept and reference artwork into real-time particle effects, and an ability to produce high quality art assets.
- Knowledge of 3d software such as 3D Studio Max, Maya, and Blender.
- Knowledgeable of lighting and HDR.
