Job Description

The Role

As a Level Designer, you’ll be accountable for the creation, tuning and documentation of game levels and worlds, with optimum playability at the forefront of everything you do.

You’ll contribute to the development of a highly skilled and ambitious design team working on Beyond Good & Evil 2, creating astonishing content and utilizing the technical possibilities of our inhouse engine. You’re looking for a creatively rewarding, exciting opportunity to work on a new type of open-world experience, that provides stimulating challenges.

You will collaborate and communicate with finesse and ease, conversing with a dynamic and diverse group of gifted artists, designers and technicians to ensure momentum and steer the project through each stage of the process. You are that trusted colleague who can express and present ideas, as well as make informed decisions autonomously.

Missions:

  • Be a strong contributor in creating amazing spaces to play in and explore.
  • Propose, prototype, and implement gameplay spaces that tie together systemic open-world gameplay with the game’s narrative and quests to create a sense of place.
  • Layout, build from initial block out to final polish in our inhouse Engine.
  • Lay out your environment in detail (place settlements, non-player characters, encounters…)
  • Use integration tools to create explorable and rich gaming spaces.
  • Work with the Design Team and the Environment Artists to make gameplay and Levels function harmoniously.
  • Work with Art Team to ensure artistic unity with the entire project.
  • Prototype rough level layouts quickly and efficiently.
  • Author and maintain design documentation.
  • Playtest and iterate on world/level content to ensure the highest quality.
  • Work as part of a team to resolve design and gameplay issues as they emerge during development.

Qualifications

  • A college diploma in Game Design or equivalent (undergraduate degree an asset)
  • At least 7 years of experience in video game level design or related experience (having worked on an open-world AAA game, an asset)
  • Have experience with multiplayer and/or cooperative games
  • Experience using game engines (e.g. Unity or Unreal) + knowledge
  • Exceptional collaboration, communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills
  • Ability to accept feedback and adapt to it
  • A keen eye for detail
